SHARCS News Letter 5/26/08 email to someone | printer friendly
S.H.A.R.C.S. News Letter 05/26/2008

Review of club meeting held Sunday 05/25/08:

1. Members present: Bert Dotson, Evan Fieldman, Rick King, Jeff Lewis, Bob Marshman, Mike McGraw, Steve Sarlls, Tony Sedlak, Kyle Shelton, David Smith, Troy Smith, Steve Willis, Wendy Willis, Art
Roy.
2. New members voted into club membership: Gregory Stringfellow, Herman Brown, Deryl Rolle, Malik, Stephens, Clement Charbonnet, Simon Vaamonde, Luis Musquiz, Jose Cruz, Herschel Marshall, Burc
Simsek, Chris Riha, Max Horton, Mark Petru. All memberships were approved.

3. The new by-laws were voted on and approved unanimously as presented. The new by-laws will be posted on the Houston Heli web site S.H.A.R.C.S. web page.

4. Approval for the installation of small heli pads was not passed by membership.

5. Approval for the purchase of a generator was passed by membership.

6. A solicitation for donations for the purchase of a generator was presented to the membership.

7. Greg Stringfellow (a returning member) will donate the entire cost of the generator. Thanks Greg!!!

8. President’s report on airfield: I have requested B-B-Q grills from the Parks Dept. The Parks Dept will install New B-B-Q grills this week. One will be located behind the tall fence east of the heli area canopy; the second will be located behind the tall fence north of the fixed wing area canopy. Flight station separation fences will be installed this week also if Park manpower permits. The park has manpower problems at this time. The alternate heli area should be mowed this week if manpower
permits.

9. Safety Officers Report: Members were reminded to maintain aircraft within flight boundaries for the type of aircraft being flown. Combat pilots were instructed that headgear is required at our field to
participate in combat sorties. Hardhats will be accepted as headgear. Combat pilots were also reminded of the combat engagement area (WEST OF THE ORANGE CONES), there is to be NO flight east of
the cones unless landing. A request for instructor pilots was made. Simon Vaamonde has volunteered to be an Intro Pilot for heli instruction. It is very important to remember as an AMA member you are not permitted to fly or operate a non-AMA member’s aircraft unless you are a designated AMA Intro Pilot for the clubs airfield that you are flying at. The safety officer can appoint as many non-intro pilots as the
club would need. If you would like to be an instructor or an Intro pilot please get in touch with Steve Willis or Rick King. It is the policy of S.H.A.R.C.S. not to charge a fee of any type for flight instruction
at Tom Bass Airfield.

10. We would like to thank Steve & Wendy Willis, Steve Sarlls, Rick King, Art Roy, And Evan Fieldman for providing the food and drinks that were enjoyed after the club meeting. We need to do it again soon!

11. President’s notes: Safety is of the up most importance at our field. All club members should be on the alert at all times to ensure we have a safe and enjoyable environment at our field. If at anytime a members observes unsafe practices at our field from a member or a non-member it is imperative that corrective action be taken. If the offender is a member, a mere mention of the safety violation will typically solve the problem. If the problem is still not solved and further infractions continue then a grievance should be filed with the safety officer at once. If the offender is a non-member the safety violation is usually due to unfamiliarity with our airfield rules. Informing the offender or our posted
airfield rules will usually solve the problem. Occasionally we will meet the unruly person who chooses not to follow our airfield rules. When you run across a person that just refuses to follow the airfield rules, it is best to just call in the park personal or the Harris County Sheriffs Dept. and have the offender removed from the field. Problems should NEVER be allowed to become a personal confrontation.

12. S.H.A.R.C.S. has a total of 0.00. We need members; everyone who fly’s at this field should be requested to join our club. Every member should be actively recruiting members!!!!

Need directions to the field from Nasa Rd 1

nta1902 on 14 Oct : 06:57PM
Anyone find a hex starter shaft out at the field? I think I may have left mine out there and I don't want to buy a new one.

nta1902 on 26 Sep : 05:08PM
Any update on the field? Let me know if I can help out in any way.

turbine50 on 20 Sep : 07:50PM
Sounds about right. I flew over the field on Monday and could see the airplane canopy pieces all over the field. Mostly south and east of the runway. It also looks like the tin sheeting blew off of the generator housing because normally, the sun reflects off it but not that time.

Russking123 on 17 Sep : 03:10PM
I drove by the field yesterday (9/16). The gate was padlocked at Fellows Rd, but I could see that the canopy over the airplane pit area had been blown over. It was lying upside down in between the parking lot and the pit area. The helicopter pit canopy, however, appeared to be in tact.

Simon, I'm interested in the DX7, especially given what happened last Sunday. Shoot me a message -- Nate

Texmech on 16 Aug : 10:34AM
There we go! Thanks Mike. I was getting a bit frustrated. I was so much into a routine in Michigan that I could tell you when and who would be at the field on any givin day. We also had a help day on Wednesday's that newbs could come out on for tuning, help,or just meeting friends. I can fly all I want here in my neck of the woods but there is only 2 heli pilots active In Texas City RC Club, that I have noticed so far. I'll try to escape this weekend. IS Sunday a better bet for yall?

We are here Texmech. You will find lots of pilots on the weekends, and a few guys during the week more so in the evening I would say.. No other sites that are part of this club though. Take care, Mike J.

Texmech on 11 Aug : 03:26PM
Hello!! Bueller?? Where are all the Heli pilots at?

Texmech on 01 Aug : 01:58PM
Is there a regular flying day for most of you guys or is it sporatic? What are the odds of finding people at Tom Bass during the week after work? Iws there another site that is active during the week for after work flying?.

rking02 on 17 Jul : 03:34PM
Sorry, Nathan claimed it already.
